why Text links suck

well last night I decided I wanted to try something new. I created a text link campaign called Johnchow Sucks in hope that will grab some attention from the viewer.
I went and bought 3 ad spots on three different blogs.
The first blog was http://zacjohnson.com/ and the only text links he offers were thetopspots. it must of been really late last night when I purchased the link because my assumption was that the link was going to be there for a month. When I woke up this morning and I found out that the ad runs only for 1 week. What the fuck, why the hell would you charge $30 for a week long link but that’s probablly the trick of using those are you on my top spot .( I’m going to put one of those up real soon to) they don’t really explain. they really caught me. The good think is thay at least http://zacjohnson.com/ give you a free t shirt with free shipping. that will save me some money I felt i lost.
All in all the link did do pretty good better then the rest did in one day. that’s why I’m mad because I wanted it there for a whole month.
The second link came from http://www.johncow.com/The price for the link was $30 dollars for the month. which compared to a week, was great. The text link did do the worse though. I think it’s because http://www.johncow.com/ is great but mostly entertaining not that informative. So when people visit his blog they don’t expect to believe everything on the blog. I also paid an extra $7 dollars for the no follow to be disabled which now I realize was not the right thing to do for this blog.
the third blog came from http://www.bloggingtips.com the first day test ok but not that much better then johncow.com. The bad part is that once again last nite I also did that stupid topspot crap which means my link won’t be there for long. the good part it only cost me $5 bucks
total cost for Johnchow sucks campaign: $72 bucks
estimated daily traffic coming in: 25 visits
Conclusion:
I think I learned alot because of this. basically I will get 415 visitors to this blog for $72 bucks. thats like $ .18 cents a visit dam I got robbed. I don’t think that text link ads are any good and I suggest you don’t try them. what will happen is that you will bleed to death. in other words your money will slowly drain till your blog’s fail. It will bring you visits but you have to have a great blog with a great conversion rate to do anything. what I plan on doing next will be to try a paid review. I think It will be more expensive but I think I will get alot more visits then using text link ads.

i think you are approaching this the wrong way… I get 10,000 viewers but google also sends me a lot… you might be better off buying google adwords. The best thing is, I claim that against my taxes. So off a $3000 a month blog income, I can advertise a lot and write it all off…
So you think I would get a better return on my investment if I use google adwords
please explain in more detail
I use adwords campaigns to gain more subscribers. One thing to keep in mind is that i can write that off my taxes from my $3000 blog income. Might as well use your tax dollars
It would be helpful if you can do a post like that in your blog or in mine. you would be talking more in detail of what network you use for you adsense keywords and do if you adsense keywords are only being showen to blogs in the make money online niche. I need more detail because this sounds very interesting
If you are low on cash you might try Project Wonderful. I get free advertising on PM by using the advanced options where you can select sites that don’t have a minimum bid. You can advertise on a lot of sites this way and it will cost you nothing. The free ads have a two day limit but, you are allowed to come back and advertise more. If you have a bigger budget you can target even better sites.
I am currently playing with PM to see how much traffic I get. Later when I have a few bucks to spend I do plan on using adwords.
alright ill let you know when I write it, most likely monday
I second the Project Wonderful suggestion. You can get free advertising, or pick up spots that cost next to nothing.
